Will continue to flesh it out.. but gonna take a short break from this guy for now

  1. i like the top blue/white/silver/gold palette for the character's costume (for color palette and design) because it's pretty. but the bottom one's palette makes more sense logistically if he was in a fantasy-action story, because the darker neutral colors would camouflage more easily.

    and i like your brushstrokes.

    cool.

    1. Thanks for the response Jane! I was going to develop the gold palette, but I didn't want the character to be too royal, and appear like a king of something.

  2. I'm really glad you decided to get unbored with this design and took it further. It's come out really well, especially with the more muted palette. The clothing design's particularly impressive. I think, though, that in the second one his head sits kind of strangely atop his shoulders. It might not even be that, so much as the bulk on his shoulders giving that illusion. I'm not really sure.

    1. Thanks Irshad! He is wearing large should pads with that short cape on top of em... buut I can admit that it does look somewhat strange.. like he doesn't have a neck x_x. I'm going to be doing one more take on this guy so.. I'm going to put him in a better pose and hopefully push the design a littler further.

  3. These are great explorations, Erik! I think you need to play around with the silhouette a little bit more. Instead of sticking to around the same shape/size. Really go crazy and give it a nice shape. Everything seemed so confined, when it can be really pushed to give variation. Give the eyepatch something else, maybe more ornate or something really out there! Really push it! Also have the character a pose in a manner you believe best suits them! Don't just have them standing there, but have them express! Anna mentioned that to me once about my characters! haha besides that! They're looking good! keep on trucking!

    Cheers!
